Bare knuckle boxing is bloodier and looks more violent but is actually far safer than boxing using gloves. Gloves were introduced to increase the number of knockouts by adding weight and protecting fighters hands, this has resulted in a dramatic increase in fatalities caused by the sport. As the bare-knuckle campaigner Dr Alan J Ryan pointed out: “In 100 years of bare-knuckle fighting in the United States…there wasn’t a single ring fatality.” Today, there are three or four every year in the US.… Worldwide, there have been over 400 boxing deaths in the last 50 years alone.… A return to bare knuckles would be bloodier and less acceptable to mass television audiences, but one has to ask whether wheelchairs and life-support machines are any easier on one’s conscience. -

Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford were drunk in the scene where Leia and Solo arrive at Cloud City in “The Empire Strikes Back” due to partying all night into the morning with the Rolling Stones and Eric Idle. “Eric Idle rented me his house [during the filming of The Empire Strikes Back], but then he stayed at the house as well, and one night he invited the Rolling Stones over. You know how that happens? It was like [sarcastically] ‘Oh my God, again?’ “I said to Harrison [Ford], ‘The Rolling Stones are going to come over!’ And we had a really early call the following morning, but you have to measure the fun – Rolling Stones, or early call? Rolling Stones, or early call? And we decided on both. “And they’re a partying bunch of guys, and though I didn’t drink at the time, to be kind of amenable, or whatever, I drank. I used to say I’m allergic to drinking, and this would have been a demonstration of that. And we stayed up pretty late. Charlie [Watts], that one, he didn’t have a lot of facial expressions. He’s like the Darth Vader of the Stones. “And we stayed up really late and got to the set about two hours later. And we weren’t hung over, we were still in our cups. And if you watch the movie you can see that: Harrison and I are smiling as we arrived in Cloud City. Doesn’t that sound like a euphemism?” -

Eight-year-old Gabi Mann of Seattle, Washington receives gifts from crows in her garden. She feeds the crows regularly and little “treasures” are given in return including a miniature silver ball, a black button, a blue paper clip, a yellow bead, a blue Lego piece, and a pearl colored heart. “Lisa, Gabi’s mom, regularly photographs the crows and charts their behaviour and interactions. Her most amazing gift came just a few weeks ago, when she lost a lens cap in a nearby alley while photographing a bald eagle as it circled over the neighbourhood. She didn’t even have to look for it. It was sitting on the edge of the birdbath. Had the crows returned it? Lisa logged on to her computer and pulled up their bird-cam. There was the crow she suspected. “You can see it bringing it into the yard. Walks it to the birdbath and actually spends time rinsing this lens cap.”” -

When Nintendo had a fall in revenue from the less successful Wii U its CEO cut his pay in half for 5 months rather than blame workers. His famous quote was “On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. In my heart, I am a gamer”. This man lived for Nintendo, he helped the team working on the original Pokemon games by programming the version that would go out to America. He had passion for the game and respect for his workers. The very sad part is that he passed away with the regret of having disappointed Nintendo fans following a poor E3 in 2015. He’s a huge inspiration and was deeply loved by all of Nintendo both employees and fans. -
